Omentin, also called omentin-1, is a visceral fat depot-specific secretory protein.¹ It is expressed predominantly in visceral adipose tissue but also expressed in stromal vascular cells, but not fat cells. Omentin does not affect basal but enhanced insulin-stimulated glucose uptake. Its expression is down-regulated by insulin and glucose.² Omentin enhances the effect of insulin on the regulation of sugar within the body and therefore may be a factor in causing abdominal obesity and related diseases, such as Type 2 diabetes.³

The lyophilized protein should be stored desiccated at -20°C. The reconstituted protein can be stored for at least one week at 4°C. For long-term storage of the reconstituted protein, aliquot into working volumes and store at -20°C in a manual defrost freezer. Avoid Repeated Freeze Thaw Cycles.
