| Description: | Clostridium aminobutyricum ferments 4-aminobutyrate via succinic semialdehyde, 4-hydroxybutyrate, 4-hydroxybutyryl-CoA and crotonyl-CoA to acetate and butyrate. One of the enzymes involved in this process is Gamma hydroxybutyrate CoA transferase. Characterisation of Gamma hydroxybutyrate CoA transferase from Clostridium aminobutyricum has shown it to be largely membrane, or particle bound, in crude lysates. It can be solubilised in detergent, and is inactivated by oxygen, but stable under anaerobic conditions. |
