Specificity:
Rabbit Anti-Human Casp-2 recognizes an epitope near the N-terminus of human and mouse Casp-2. This polyclonal antibody was purified using affinity chromatography.
Background:
Caspases are a family of cysteine proteases that can be divided into the apoptotic and inflammatory caspase subfamilies. Unlike the apoptotic caspases, members of the inflammatory subfamily are generally not involved in cell death but are associated with the immune response to microbial pathogens.1,2 Members of this subfamily include caspase-1, -4, -5, and -12 and can activate proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and IL-18.3,4 Although phylogenetically similar to this subfamily, Caspase-2 is thought to be involved in stress-induced apoptosis.5 Caspase-2 has two major isoforms; overexpression on the long form results in apoptosis while that of the short form suppresses cell death.6

Formulation
This polyclonal antibody is formulated in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) pH 7.4 containing 0.02% sodium azide as a preservative.
Storage and Stability
This polyclonal antibody is stable for at least one week when stored at 2-8°C. For long term storage, aliquot in working volumes without diluting and store at –20°C in a manual defrost freezer. Avoid Repeated Freeze Thaw Cycles.

Western Blotting: This antibody can be used to detect human and mouse Casp-2 by Western blot analysis at a concentration of 1 µg/ml when used in conjunction with compatible secondary reagents, such as Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG (H&L)-Horseradish Peroxidase (Leinco Prod. No.: R1190), under either reducing or non-reducing conditions. The positive control for Western blotting is Ramos Whole Cell Lysate (Leinco Prod. No.: R1173).
