Introduction:
Parainfluenza virus, PIV, contains a group of four distinct serotypes of single-stranded RNA viruses belonging to the paramyxovirus family and two subtypes (4a and 4b). Parainfluenza viruse is a negative-sense, single-stranded RNA viruse that possess fusion and hemagglutinin-neuraminidase glycoprotein "spikes" on their surface. The virion varies in size (average diameter between 150 and 300 nm) and shape.

Description:
Allantoic fluid of 10 days old embryonated eggs, inoculated with parainfluenza-1 virus, strain Sendai. The Parainfluenza-1 Virus was purified by Ultracentrifugation with 20-60 % sucrose gradient.

Inactivation:
Thimerosal and beta propiolactone treatment
This product has been treated in a manner consistent with methods of inactivation. Generally accepted good laboratory practices appropriate to microbiological/viral safe handling practices and techniques are required at work.

Physical Appearance:
Sterile Filtered colorless solution

Formulation:
The Parainfluenza type-1 solution contains 0.1M NaCl, 10mM Tris Hcl, 1mM EDTA pH-8, and 0.1 % sodium azide (NaN3).

Stability:
Parainfluenza type-1 although stable 4°C for 4 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C.
Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Immunological Activity:
Serological studies of Parainfluenza virus, immunogen for antibody production.

Purity:
Greater than 90.0% as determined by:
Analysis by SDS-PAGE.
