Background
Oncoprotein 18 (Op18), also referred as stathmin, is a ubiquitous cytosolic phosphoprotein, proposed to be a small regulatory protein and a relay integrating diverse intracellular signaling pathways involved in the control of cell proliferation, differentiation and activities.
One major action of Op18 is to interfere with microtubule dynamics, by inhibiting the formation of microtubules and/or favouring their depolymerization. Op18 interacts directly with soluble tubulin, which results in the formation of a complex which sequesters free tubulin and therefore impedes microtubule formation.
Op18 belongs to a protein family which includs the neural proteins SCG10, SCLIP and RB3/RB3'/RB3".

Antibody format: Lyophilized serum

Type of antibody: Polyclonal

Immunogen: a 13 amino acids peptide coupled to a carrier protein (KLH).

Cross-reactivity: Western blot analysis of human leukemia cells (Jurkat and K562) and human adult brain tissue from the cortex reveals only the 18.7 kDa Op18 / stathmin band. However, analysis of human primary T lymphocytes reveals some additional bands at higher molecular weight.

Tested applications: Western Blot (working dilution approx. 1:1000)

Additional information: Oncoprotein 18 (SLE13) occurs in higher levels in neural tissues and in proliferating cells as well as in neonatal tissues. Therefore this material can be used as a positive control. In adult tissues this protein is expressed on rather low levels. References: Results of using this rabbit anti-serum, which was produced with the aim to detect all Op18 / stathmin family members, and N or C-terminal truncated derivatives thereof, with equal efficiency, are as yet unpublished.
